Kamma Himalayan Coffee, one of Nepal's most precious treasures to the world, is a coffee producer that combines craftsmanship and perfection. Kamma meticulously selects rare coffee beans grown in the Himalayas' highest peaks, under challenging climatic conditions, and has achieved high scores in international competitions. Every stage of the production process is handled entirely by hand.
At Lidenbrock, we undertook the branding process to bring Kamma's unique story and high-quality product to the global recognition it deserves. We created a sustainable, passionate, and unique visual language and strategic brand architecture that reflects the brand's natural, premium, and people-focused identity.
This collaboration was designed to illuminate Kamma's flavor journey from the Himalayas to the entire world and to highlight the labor behind each hand-selected bean.
The target audience is a society group comprised of younger and more mature individuals who enjoy exploring new worlds and are interested in spirituality, while also seeking to experience the social aspects of life. The new concept also needed to appeal to young, active, and working nomads.
To meet and exceed the expectations of these audiences, a high-quality experience and a brand ethos that consistently places the philosophy of karma at the heart of life were essential. The name of this coffee, which reflects this brand's ethos, was chosen as Kamma.
Kamma is a fundamental philosophy in Buddhism that describes an effect caused and returned by one's actions.
As a team closely connected to the brands, we conducted extensive archetype research and defined the target audience journey. This helped us establish the initial brand-building process and develop the brand's character and core message. Given that a brand's success depends on those seeking their own journey, sharing goodness, and pursuing the natural, experiencing a personalized, positive, and harmonious experience, a focus on experience was essential.
Based on this spirit, we crafted a brand strategy that blends tradition with modernity, matches serenity with adventure, and combines rest with action, while introducing Kamma to the world, nurturing the curiosity of travelers and those seeking their own inner journey, and building a sense of community across borders. The concept was crafted with a meticulous attention to detail to ensure everyone from different cultures feels part of the same community.
One of the key challenges was that Himalayan coffee wasn't yet as well-known as other tropical coffees and had limited production conditions. We solved this by uncovering a hidden treasure, showcasing bird-friendly growing conditions, and incorporating the value of less into the brand identity.
The visual identity conveys precisely this. Building seamlessly on the brand's archetype, it incorporates the Monal Bird, also known as Danphe, a symbol of the Himalayas. This helps convey the spirit of soaring over the Himalayas, the cultivation of bird-friendly coffee, and the mixed philosophy of goodness, which will return to you with a different kind of goodness. The design system also aligns with the brand's rebellious spirit and energizing voice in communication. The identity emphasizes that anyone involved with the brand can reach out to those who are truly interested in creating the kind of community the brand promises.
